EBF International Symposium
The International Symposium is a one-day activity that is being organised by the EBF every year. This year the event is expected to be a success again, this time the lectures and workshops are focused on the theme “Survival of the fittest” - how do world events influence business and economics.
The participants of this event are mainly Dutch students who follow an internationally oriented study but international students will attend as well. In line with this, the International Symposium will be held entirely in English. The purpose of this event is to get students in touch with the business world, influential people and companies early on in their study by means of a relevant and interesting theme. This way students can orientate themselves towards their future career opportunities and choices. The day will start with lectures from renowned speakers that will shed light on the practical application of theories students get familiar with during their study. In the second part of the day, the students will attend a number of workshops; where they will interact with companies and work on cases.
The expected number of students is around 200.
The theme for the International Symposium 2012
The date for the International Symposium is the 14thof June. During that time the UEFA cup, the European soccer tournament will be underway. In Europe this is a huge event that has a commercial side that many people don’t know about. Take for example the main Dutch beer companies such as Heineken, Grolsch and Bavaria. If Holland reaches the final or wins the cup then the beer companies will sell more beer. The demand will be enormous. How will these companies prepare for such a situation? And on the other hand if Holland gets kocked-out in the group stage the interest of the Dutch people will vanish. Thus less games will be watched in pubs and the beer demand will be way lower. What will companies do with the excess beer, how will they prepare for this event?
This is just one sector that is affected by the European cup. There are many companies that can be targeted by the acquisition, and speakers can come from all sectors, whether it be supply chain management, financial management or logistics.
The Committee
We, the International Symposium Committee, are a multicultural group consisting of students from Romania, the Netherlands and Germany. This year we are organizing the 5th International Symposium, which is held in June. This event gives young students, from all over the world, the chance to get acquainted with current economical and political issues, and to think critical.
