Karel Jan Alsem

Karel Jan Alsem (1957) is Assistant Professor in Marketing. His main research interests concern strategic brand management, marketing communications and marketing planning. His papers have appeared in several marketing journals. In 1993 he published a (Dutch) monograph on Strategic Marketing Planning, widely used in business schools and now in its fifth edition (2009), and also published by McGraw Hill in an international edition. As branding expert Dr Alsem is regularly asked for interviews and advice on branding and positioning issues, also for care organizations. He also holds his own brand consultancy company (AlsemStrategie). He already supervised an IBR trip four times (South Africa, India, Thailand, Vietnam). Alsem lives in Haren with his wife Cato van der Vlugt and together they have four kids (20, 20, 17 and 15).

Nanne Brunia

Nanne Brunia (1959) first studied naval architecture at the University of Applied Sciences (HTS) in Haarlem. He worked for four years at Centraalstaal BV in Groningen. Nanne Brunia was responsible for the construction of coasters, fishing boats, supply vessels and ferries, and participated in research on setting up activities in India and Indonesia.

In the early eighties Nanne Brunia continued his education at the University of Groningen. He studied General Economics and obtained his PhD on a macro-econometric model of the six largest OECD countries. In the meantime, he became assistant professor, teaching in international economic relations and in particular the integration and disintegration of Europa. In the mid-nineties Nanne Brunia participated in the modelling of the Dutch social security system at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment in The Hague. In 1999, he joined the department of Finance and Accounting at the University of Groningen. His current interests are the field of corporate valuation and corporate performance assessment.
